I spend a month in ASEAN Secretariat as an intern as part of conditions in completing my International Masters in Regional Integration (IMRI) from Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya. One colorful month in Jakarta.... ;-)
The http://trans.jakarta.go.id(Busway) or the http://trans.jakarta.go.id(Transjakarta) was my official transport from Sarinah Halte to Masjid Agung Halte every morning and afternoon, from Wisma Malaysia in Menteng to Gedung ASEAN in Jl Sisingamangaraja. The Busway is like our Malaysian LRT, except it's a bus which have its own route or jalur (in Indonesian terms) and station (halte). It was very efficient and damn cheap, cost me back then Rp2,500 each way. It was only 5 month in operation when i was in Jakarta, lucky me else i have to use the Taksi (Taxi). :-D :-D
I was lucky to witness the Indonesian election during my time here....democracy at works. Political campaign, live debate and advertising on the nationals televisions, things that only we only dreams of.....I also watched the live telecast of Euro 2004 Soccer Finals in Jakarta, all live telecast on free tv..there's no bloody Astro here, soccer matches are still free...power to the people 8-) ...one colorful month, only in Jakarta...
